Halloween Vacations

This time of year, families flock all over the United States for fall break, particularly to the mountains. Instead of taking the same ol’ hum-drum fall break as everyone else, why not take a Halloween trip?

Travel & Leisure has come out with a lost of America’s best towns for Halloween and surprisingly, none of the towns have spooky names.

Snowmass Village, Colorado – Take in some of the 150,000 year-old bones on display at the Ice Age Discovery Center that were collected around the area. Also, listen for the howls of wolves as you walk down Divide Road.

Park City, Utah – Participate in the “Bark” City Howl-O-Ween street party with your furry companion. Not your cup of tea? Park City Ghost Tours will take you hunting for spirits and share stories of their lives and deaths.

Chatham, Massachusetts – Partake in pumpkin bowling, apple bobbing, and listen to live music at this town’s Oktoberfest the Saturday before Halloween. While there, stroll through Kate Gould Park for Pumpkin People in the Park to see pumpkin heads and bodies dressed as lobsters, knights, and pigs.

Ludlow, Vermont – Stay at the Golden Stage Inn with the inn’s ghost that lives in the attic.

Princeton, New Jersey – Princeton Tour Company turns skeptics into believers with its ghost hut tours. looking for something more kid friendly? Stop by Princeton’s Terhune Orchards to pick your own pumpkins, go through a corn maze, and visit the Barn of the Legends and Lore.

Aspen, Colorado – Dress in your favorite Halloween costume and visit the private Caribou Club (lifetime membership for 2: $25,000) for just $65 per person and enjoy their annual Halloween Bash. Or, spend the night on a Murder and Mayhem Tour with Aspen Walking Tours.

Harbor Springs, Michigan – For a family-friendly Halloween, take in the community Halloween party for a trunk-and-treat and parade.

Bar Harbor, Maine – Watch for signs of ghosts all over town as you may come across one of eight missionaries killed in 1613, or an orb of white that materializes in the town’s funeral home. Pets can join in the fun with a costume party at Acadia Vet Hospital.

Stowe, Vermont – Take the Stowe Lantern Tour where ghost-seekers carry lantern through a church steeple and listen to haunted tales.

Delray Beach, Florida – Enjoy a Halloween Parade and Trick-or-Treat Along the Avenue. Afterword, head to Kidsfest in Veterans Park for food, games, crafts, and live entertainment.

Other towns on the list include:

Winter Park, Florida

Skaneateles, New York

Telluride, Colorado

New Hope, Pennsylvania

Traverse City, Michigan

Oakland, Maryland

Franklin, Tennessee

Beaver Creek, Colorado

St. Augustine, Florida

Don’t see anything that catches your eye? You can always head to one of the scariest haunted attractions in America. Personally, I think I’ll head over to Aspen and partake in the Caribou Club Halloween Bash since that’ll be the only time I can ever afford to get in the doors.
