Killarney, Ireland – Stop #1

Hi All!

I realize I’ve been MIA the last week or so. I had my pesky wisdom teeth removed Monday so I’ve been avoiding life like the plague until the chipmunk in my face disappeared.

So, a bit of exciting news here. Brady came home for lunch today and while I’m briskly working away here at the kitchen table, he lays a packet down on my computer that says…

Killarney, Ireland

June 7-11, 2016

EEEEEK!!! I almost screamed, but then there would’ve went the stitches in my mouth. Instead, I jumped up and down in my chair clapping my hands like I had just won the $1.5 billion Powerball. Eh, on second thought, I think the trip still would have outweighed the excitement level over the Powerball.

Back to the trip.

We will officially be flying out of OKC on June 6th en route to either Cork, Ireland for a Tuesday afternoon arrival in Killarney. Our accommodations for the first part of our trip will be the Killarney Park Hotel. This Five Star Hotel is located in town centre and is just minutes away from the famed Killarney National Park.

For the golfers of the group, Wednesday will be met with a golf outing at Waterville Links, rated the #1 golf course in Ireland. Those choosing not to golf get to spend the day exploring Killarney and the neighboring area. What will be on our agenda is still to come!

Thursday greets us with breakfast at the hotel followed by either another golf day (ugh) at Killarney Golf Club, home to the 1991, 1992, 2010, and 2011 Irish Open, or a tour of the Gap of Dunloe. The Gap is something I have long been researching and I am thrilled to see it on the list. We will travel to the base of MacGillycuddy’s Reeks and hop aboard Jaunting Cars (horse and buggy) and wind our way through the mountains and some of the best scenery in Ireland! We will then board “Gap Boats’ for a boat trip through the Upper Lake, Muckross Lake, and Lough Leane before making our way back to Killarney.

That evening is our welcoming cocktail reception and dinner at Jarvey’s Rest Pub. My stomach can hardly wait to try some Irish food! Although, I hear they drink their beer at room temperature! Whether or not this is true, perhaps I will be sticking to a nice Cabernet Sauvignon just to play it safe. I can’t stand the though of a warm Guinness!

Friday. The working day of the trip. Shareholders meetings, committee meetings, luncheon, more committee meetings, and a board of director’s meeting. Oh, finally! Food! We will be at the hotel for our President’s cocktail reception and dinner at The Park Restaurant.

Saturday will be our day of departure and on to the next 2 weeks of our trip starting in Dublin! I can hardly wait. What has been 2 years in the works is now literally staring me in the face and I cannot wait.

Stick around! The fun is just beginning! Later to come, the itinerary for Dublin, Edinburgh, and Amsterdam!

UPDATE 5/7/16: Itinerary has changed. Amsterdam has been removed and Paris has been added!
